Each tour has a specificed downtown starting location where you will meet your Tour Guide. When you purchase tickets this information will be emailed to you along with parking suggestions. Each tour ends at a nearby different location, but within a very short walk from the start location.
Nope, although sampling the selection of local wine at each winery/vineyard is a huge part of the tour. The tour is also intended to be fun and educational, we’ll go behind the scenes and tour facilities, learn about the wine making process, and experience the differences of each winery. Additionally we’ll share the stories of each winery and share insight and historical information about the Virginia wine movement. All this while spending time with friends and like-minded wine fans. That sounds like a fun!
We’ll visit 2 wineries/vineyards during each public tour. Plus we provide Virginia wine tastings at the start location.
We certainly recommend eating before the tour. But you are also permitted and encouraged to bring food with you on the tour. We normally take a few minutes at the first winery to permit guests to enjoy food with their wine. During check out you can also elect to buy a boxed lunch that will be prepared and brought on the tour. There are a handful of menu options including a vegetarian and a gluten free option. Yes, each tour begins at the designated time at Barrel Chest. You can meet us at Barrel Chest , or we can pick up you and your party at 3 hotel locations prior to the tour. All guests will be dropped off at the location of their pickup. Please note the pick up times indicated. Drop off at hotel locations will be after the tour is completed. When purchasing tickets you’ll be asked to indicate a pickup/drop off location.

We’ll be at each venue for approx. 60 minutes. We normally stay a bit longer at the first winery to eat.
Usually guests on the tour elect to stay together as a group. We’ll go behind the scenes as a group as well as share information to the group. But there’s opportunities for individual exploration.
Some of the wineries have small food items for sale. But we’d suggest bringing your own food or taking advantage of the optional box lunch we offer.
We provide, as part of the tour, 6 tastings at each winery. Also after the tastings, you’ll have your option of a short pour glass of wine at each winery. Plus you’ll be greeted at the starting location with a glass of a delicious Virginia wine.

We’ll visit 4 venues on the tour. The Nelson 151 region has many a number of additional venues that we’ll visit on future tours, but due to time we can’t visit them all.
We’ll be at each venue between 60 – 90 minutes.
Yes, we recommend eating a hearty breakfast before the tour. We’ll provide bottled water and light snacks on the tour bus, lunch at the first venue, and a platter of snacks and food at the last venue. Prepared food is available for purchase at most of the venues as well.
Lunch is included on the tour at the first venue visited.
A snack platter will also be provided to tour guests at the final venue visited.
Bottled water and light bagged snacks are provided on the bus.
Yes, you may also bring along a SMALL bag/cooler of your own food and beverages on the tour. Any items you bring must fit under your seat or in the overhead storage. Please no leaky soft-sided coolers.
Eating on the bus is also restricted to light bagged snacks.
Larger food items you may bring can be enjoyed at the final venue visited on the tour.
Only water or soft drinks may be consumed on the bus.
We provide as part of the tour a nice tasting (flight) of beverages at each venue we visit.
Each tour starts at a brewery in downtown Roanoke. We always return to drop off guests at the starting brewery. When you purchase tickets this information will be emailed to you along with your eTicket.
The tour starts and finishes at Barrel Chest Wine & Beer – 4035 Electric Road, Suite B Roanoke, VA 24018. That is unless you indicate one of our pick up locations. In that case we’ll drop you back off after the tour where you started.

Dress casually and wear comfortable closed-toe shoes – we suggest no flip flops or high heels. You will be walking through functioning businesses and wearing the proper footwear is for your own protection. Also check the weather and dress accordingly we will both inside and out, especially on the Food Tours.
We provide, as part of the tour, at least 4 tastings of craft beer at each brewery we visit. We’ll visit 3 breweries on the tour, therefore we’ll provide at least 12 tastings.
Our tours serve enough food that for most participants lunch afterwards is not necessary. With the combination of drink and food tastings along with breaks for architectural, cultural, and historical insight, most participants are comfortably full after the tour. Our food tours are not intended to replace breakfast and lunch combined, so please consider eating a light breakfast before the tour
Yes there are a few tastings of local beer and wine on the tours. This varies on the specific tour. Also our Roanoke Sunday Brunch Tour offers a specific alcohol pairing option. You certainly can elect not to drink these.
Virginia law dictates that a guest must be 21 years or older to drink alcohol. Wewill verify age with a valid ID is deemed prudent.
Yes, bathrooms are available during the tour at selected locations.
Water is provided at many tasting locations along our tour and available at others. However, we encourage you to bring your own water if you so desire.
Tours are held rain, shine, and in all temperatures year round. We reserve the right to cancel a tour due to weather if safety is threatened, and if there are less than 5 persons on a specific tour.
If we cancel a tour, we will at your discretion, either, 1) reschedule you to another tour date (subject to availability), 2) issue you a Gift Certificate that you can use within the next year, or 3) refund your ticket purchase.
If you cancel, with at least 24 hours notice, we’ll either, 1) reschedule you to another tour date (subject to availability), or 2) issue a Gift Certificate. With less than 24 hour notice, tickets and fees are non-refundable.

Absolutely not! Our Food Tours combine architectural information, historical facts, local culture and culinary insight into a unique tour experience. It’s called a “Food Tour,” so the food is primary, but it’s so much more.
Yes, Gift Certificates are available for all our tours. You many purchase them in any dollar amount suitable to your interest and needs. To purchase or learn more about our Gift Certificates visit our Gift Certificate web page.
There are a couple of stairways along the tour routes, however in all instances there is an elevator or alternative route provided. Our Roanoke Food Tours all walking is on on flat hard surfaces (sidewalks). The Lexington Food Tour also is on hard surfaces, however there are two slight inclines which we break up so it doesn’t create an issue for guests. If you have concerns, please indicate this when you purchase your ticket, or be certain to tell your tour guide prior to the start of the tour.
If you are bringing an infant or young child (7 years of age and under), and they will not be eating, you do NOT need to purchase a ticket for them. If you do plan on your child eating, we offer a Child Ticket. Please let us know if you will be attending with an infant or young child who is NOT eating when you purchase tickets in the Notes section.
Yes, we only offer tours in English at this time. Please email us if you would like to make arrangements for your own interpreter to join the tour or if you are interested in a tour in a different language as we are may be able to accommodate requests with enough notice.
Yes, you may bring food on the tour. In most instances tables are available that you can use to eat.

No, sorry this is prohibited by Virginia ABC law for our public tours.
Absolutely! We will have a cooler/container on the bus to keep your growlers and bottle(s) while you finish the tour. Remember, you can’t drink on the bus, but rather take these home for later.
No, Virginia ABC law prohibits drinking alcohol on the tour bus during pubic tours. Also, we prohibit smoking on the bus.
Certainly. If you’d like to sample additional beverages while we’re at the venue you are welcome to do so on your own. However, remember to pace yourself and observe moderation on the tour for the safety and courtesy of all. Virginia ABC laws requires Roanoke Food Tours, LLC and the breweries to deny service to any guest that is in our view, intoxicated.
We ask that you please wait to shop until after the tour so that we can stay on our food-tasting schedule and continue with the informative tour and food tastings in a timely manner. We ask you allow time at the end of the tour to return to your favorite locations and/or shops. The tours are on a schedule to arrive at each tasting location so its important to stay on time so the food is freshly prepared for the participants.
Yes – all guests must purchase a ticket whether they plan to partake in the food tastings or not. Non-paying individuals will not be able to join the tour. The ticket fee helps cover the costs of all the samplings and other costs. Also the fee helps to pay your tour guide, who offers valuable commentary on historical, architectural, cultural and restaurant information during the 3-hour tour.
Please be sure and let us know if you (or anyone in your group) has a dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, food allergy, etc.) when you purchase your tickets. As long as we know in advance, we can usually accommodate their needs.

A gratuity for your tour guide are greatly appreciated, although not mandatory. The standard gratuity in the service industry is 15%.
Absolutely! We strongly encourage locals to attend and learn a little more about your city, discover new exciting restaurants, or just spend a great afternoon with us in downtown. You’ll guaranteed to gain a new appreciation of your hometown! The tours are also a great way to showcase your city to out of town guests!
Drinking and driving is a dangerous combination. We strongly urge you to arrange alternate transportation or a DD. If that’s not possible, we can assist in securing a taxi or other form of transportation to get you safely to your final destination – at your own expense.
We’ll be at each brewery for approximately 50 – 60 minutes.
Tours generally last about 3 hours and participants can expect to be standing or walking for a good portion of the tour. We walk at a moderate pace and also provide sit down locations on all of our tours.
We do not provide a waiting list. However, if a tour date and time is sold out, there is some chance that we might be able to accommodate in some way. Please email us and let us know what date you are interested in if you do not see availability.
We’re sorry this tour is not suitable or accessible for persons with physical disabilities. The tour bus is not equipped with a wheelchair lift, and as we tour facilities there is often work equipment and ramps that requires careful walking.
No, the ticket price does not include a guide gratuity. If you are so inclined, a 15%-20% tip for your guide/driver is always appreciated.

Yes, all attendees must be at least 21 years of age.
Frequently, there is a local food truck at the breweries, feel free to purchase and enjoy their food.
We provide bottled water and light packaged snacks (e.g. pretzels, etc.) on the tour bus. Plus a quick stop at a local iconic “after hours” eatery for a tasty cheeseburger, but not a full meal. Prepared food, from local food trucks, may be available for purchase at some breweries.
Roanoke Food Tours, LLC reserves the right to refuse admittance or continuation on the tour and/or tour bus if, in our opinion, a tour guest is intoxicated. We also reserve the right to remove from the tour any guest that is disruptive, disrespectful or destructive to tours staff, venue representatives, tour guests or property. In such case, no refund will be made to such guest, and no liability or cost incurred by Roanoke Food Tours, LLC for transportation or other expenses incurred by that guest.
Absolutely. Virginia has strict ABC laws, therefore the breweries may elect not to serve guests that can not provide a valid ID. Please BRING YOUR ID!

While we offer both adolescent (8 – 12) and child (7 & under) tickets, the tour is three hours long and some children have a limited attention span and therefore the tour may not be appropriate for some. Parents, who know their children best, should assess the situation individually. Since there is a lot of standing and walking, please consider this when deciding whether the tour is appropriate for your child.
All our Tours are held rain, shine, or snow, year round in all temperatures. However, we advise to check the weather conditions for your tour day and dress appropriately.
On our walking tours in the event of inclement weather, we will be able to go inside many of the establishments on the tour. We also provide ponchos in case of sudden weather changes or if you do not have your own umbrella.
We reserve the right to cancel a tour due to weather or other conditions that may impact guest safety. Otherwise, here we go!
Food is provided by ethnic eateries, specialty food shops and local restaurants. For a better idea of what types of eateries we will visit, a list of the food tasting locations can be found on each tour’s page on this web site.
For Roanoke visitors, we highly recommend taking our food tours at the beginning of your visit – it’ll make the remainder of your visit so much more enriching. Our tours are the tastiest way to discover Roanoke like an insider! You’ll also be able to redeem your Tasting Location Coupons. For locals, the best time is with your friends and family. Since tours may sell out well in advance, we suggest buying tickets early.
Parking is available at each tour’s starting location. After your purchase tickets, you’ll receive emails with parking suggestions.
Due to the various food establishments we visit, pets of any kind are not allowed on this tour. Accommodations for Service Dogs will be made. However, please do let us know if you will be attending with a Service Dog and any accompanying limitations when you purchase tickets in the Notes section.
