Allow us to escort you to local farm wineries where you’ll taste wines, go behind the scenes to explore vineyards and wine making facilities, learn the basics of wine making (“Wine Making 101”), and uncover the legacy of Virginia’s wine history. Fun, convenient and memorable!
Whether you’re a casual wine drinker or a sommelier you’re sure to enjoy a tour of our local farm wineries, lively wine conversation, and the opportunity to sample the work of our local wines artisans. Our local guides will share their knowledge and enthusiasm for our local wine scene. Chances are you’ll meet some of those involved in helping to make Virginia a top 10 Wine Destination in the U.S.
Our tours are part of our region’s exploding “Think Local – Support Local – Drink Local” movement. Enjoy an afternoon at beautiful wineries sipping wine with friends (old and new) and gaining new insights! If you’re already an expert in understanding European wine labels and have a well-stocked wine cellar – you’ll still savor touring our region’s small farm vineyards and meeting some of the dedicated and colorful personalities responsible for making Virginia a prime wine destination. If you’re a visitor to Roanoke and our region – join us early in your stay and discover Blue Ridge wines like an insider!
You’re encouraged to bring along a small bag/cooler of your own food on the tour. We do provide water and light bagged snacks on the bus.
As an alternative, we also provide a choice of four Box Lunches options from Wildflour Cafe at Towers. These lunches are beautifully prepared and travel well. Sometimes guests find that sharing one boxed lunch is plenty!
We do plan time during the tour to eat at the first winery we visit.
If you buy a ticket “With Box Lunch”, you’ll indicate your selection during check out. Options include:
1. Cranberry-Walnut Chicken Salad wrap, house-made, with lettuce and tomato in a wheat wrap. Served with cucumber salad and fresh fruit.
2. House-made hummus wrap with Kalamata olives, feta cheese, tomato, and lettuce. Served with pita points and fresh fruit.
3. Cheese, Meat & Cracker assortment. Chef’s choice.

Nope, although sampling the selection of local wine at each winery/vineyard is a huge part of the tour. The tour is also intended to be fun and educational, we’ll go behind the scenes and tour facilities, learn about the wine making process, and experience the differences of each winery. Additionally we’ll share the stories of each winery and share insight and historical information about the Virginia wine movement. All this while spending time with friends and like-minded wine fans. That sounds like a fun!
We provide, as part of the tour, 6 tastings at each winery. Also after the tastings, you’ll have your option of a short pour glass of wine at each winery. Plus you’ll be greeted at the starting location with a glass of a delicious Virginia wine.
We certainly recommend eating before the tour. But you are also permitted and encouraged to bring food with you on the tour. We normally take a few minutes at the first winery to permit guests to enjoy food with their wine. During check out you can also elect to buy a boxed lunch that will be prepared and brought on the tour. There are a handful of menu options including a vegetarian and a gluten free option. See the Wine Tour page for complete details about these box lunches.
